Get Your Feet Summer Ready!

Summer is well and truly on the way, its finally time to pack away those winter boots and dust off the sandals lurking in the back of your wardrobe! Neglected winter feet are not a pleasant sight; they may even have you curling your toes and wanting to hide them away. However, with these few tips, your feet will be looking and feeling years younger and beach-ready in no time!

Toenails

It’s time to pack in that nail polish addiction. Long-term use of nail polish causes severe dehydration, stains and damages your toenails. Instead, you should nourish and hydrate them with nail and cuticle oil. Furthermore, you should cut and file your nails to a straight line; glass nail files and nail clippers are the best equipment to use. Try to prevent curling the corners of your toenails as this can lead to ingrown toenails.

Hard skin

Hard skin on the feet is caused by how you walk; using a foot file on dry skin facilitates effective and even removal of hard skin. The use of an exfoliator on the soles of the feet will also complement the effects.

You can also soak your feet in tepid water with fresh lemon and mint; this will leave your feet feeling relaxed, soothed and revitalised.

Moisturiser

Moisturiser feeds, nourishes and hydrates the skin. Your feet will be noticeably softer and smoother; by moisturising daily, you are also preventing the reoccurrence of complicated skin and cracked heels.

Sandals

Wearing sandals with ankle support and cushioned soles, ensuring they are wide and deep enough, will create excellent comfort and prevent as well as treat foot pain.

The number one cause of foot pain is wearing flip flops; if you insist on wearing them, you should do so little and often.

Sunscreen

Face, arms and legs, are all body parts we think about when applying sunscreen. Yet, feet are very sadly forgotten about, and they are one of the most important places to apply to! The skin on the feet is more vulnerable to melanomas and other forms of skin cancer.  It’s better to wear socks where possible to protect your feet from the sun, we would highly advise moisture wicking socks to prevent your feet getting too sweaty.

Finally, if you find you’re struggling with the above foot treatments, a podiatrist like ourselves is there to get your feet summer ready for you! You will receive instant results and feel incredible and confident in your summer sandals. Contact us to book an appointment.
