Our Services.

Heel Pain.

There are many causes of heel pain including; Plantar Fasciitis, Nerve entrapment, heel pad syndrome, retrocalcaneal bursitis, haglands bumps, achilles tendinitis and more. Don’t suffer in silence. Most heel pain can be treated. We may suggest exercises, footwear changes, orthoses (insoles), night splints, steroid injections, we may suggest referral for surgery.

Fungal Nail Treatment.

We offer the Five Minute Fungus test (Dermatophyte test strip), which is an in-house test for fungal nail infection to confirm diagnosis. It works by immune-chromotography, similar to that used in pregnancy. We offer a number of treatments for fungal nail infections depending on the severity of the infection. The include; thinning of the nails, nail surgery, creams and more.

Biomechanical Assessments.

We would recommend this assessment for anyone experiencing foot or lower leg pain e.g. heel pain, mid-foot pain. During the assessment, the podiatrist will take a history of the problem. They may also ask about your general health, medication and activity levels as this will help us form a management plan with you.

Warts & Verrucas.

If you have tried home remedies and would like treatment we can offer several options.

Caustics/Acids

We can apply silver nitrate, salicylic acid, or Verrutop. Verrutop uses a chemical called Nitrizinic Complex that reacts with the viral DNA causing the verruca to dehydrate. This treatment often requires between 1-6 treatments and sometimes more.

Cryotherapy

We can freeze your verruca, this often requires multiple treatments.

Verrucae needling

We make the foot numb with local anaesthetic, with your help we then select the largest and thickest verruca to treat. We remove the overlying hard skin associated with the verruca and then use a needle to repeatedly puncture the verrucae until a wound is created.

Nail Surgery.

When suffering from an ingrown/involuted toenail or even a fungal nail infection, one of the most used treatment options is to remove part or all of the toenail under a local anaesthetic.

The most common causes for needing nail surgery are:

  • An involuted/ingrown toenail

  • Foot deformity e.g. bunion

  • Thickened toenails due to fungal nail infections or trauma

  • Incorrect cutting of toenails

  • Tearing of a nail

  • Tight footwear

  • Trauma to the nail

Nail surgery is a very quick procedure, but we will need to do a full assessment, including reviewing your medical history and medication with you to check this is the best option for you.

Orthotics.

Orthoses or orthotics devices are medical devices/inserts that are used to reduce pressure/stress/shear on or within the foot.

We would usually use orthoses in conjunction with a rehabilitation program e.g. exercises

Over the Counter Orthoses

They can be over-the-counter devices e.g. we have a stock of various pre-bought devices that we can adapt (if required) to meet your needs. These are lower cost than our bespoke range and can be expected to last on average 6 months to 2 years, although this does vary from brand to brand. Your podiatrist will be able to advise.

Bespoke Casted Orthoses

We also bespoke custom orthoses, which are custom made to the shape of your foot, we will work with you to decide what device best suits your need e.g. would you like a softer or firm device, what shoes do you orthoses need to fit in?

Musculoskeletal Assessment.

This is pain that affects bones, joints, ligaments, tendons or muscles. So if you have heel pain, big toe joint pain, neuroma pain you might want to consider a  musculoskeletal or biomechanics appointment. A full assessment of your problem will be made during your consultation to determine a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Diabetic Footcare.

Podiatrists excel at assessing the diabetic foot. We provide doppler circulation and sensation checks and review your foot structure and skin. If you have diabetes, you should book regular foot health checks to ensure that your feet are pain-free.

We provide routine nail care and podiatry treatments for people with diabetes. Book an appointment today.

Nail Reconstruction.

We suggest that nail reconstruction works best when applied to a nail bed that has at least a small section of nail present. Wilde-pedique can be used on scaly nail surfaces, such as psoriatic nails. It can be used to hide the discoloration of fungal nails. It can also used when a nail is torn or split to assist it to grow out without further tearing or splitting.

What Is A Podiatrist?

Feet

Podiatrists are Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered health professionals specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of the foot, ankle and associated structures. A Podiatrist must have completed either a diploma of chiropody (pre-2000) or a Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatry or Podiatric Medicine (BSc Hons) (after 2000) which is covered full time over 3 years in a University.

A Podiatrist may see anything from toenail reconstruction to treating a verruca, to assisting heel or neuroma pain by making orthoses or giving a steroid injection.

What Is A Foot Health Practitioner?

A foot health practitioner is a foot care professional that specialises in providing basic foot care services. The primary focus of a foot health practitioner is to prevent foot problems from occurring by correctly caring for your feet. Some of the treatments that your foot health practitioner can provide will be correctly cutting and thinning down thickened toenails, enucleating your corns or treating patches of hard skin.

Please note that treatments undertaken by a foot health practitioner are not covered by Westfield Health and other insurance packages.
